Men’s Tennis Takes Down Seahawks in CCC Play

NEWPORT, R.I. (April 16, 2022) – The Western New England men's tennis team took down the Seahawks of Save Regna University on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 6-3 after the Golden Bears swept the Seahawks in doubles play to come away with a victory in the match. 

Records:

  • Western New England: 5-3, 2-1 CCC
  • Salve Regina: 1-13, 1-5 CCC

How it Happened:

The Golden Bears got the match off with a great start, as they picked up the three doubles victories in the match. Nick Bayer and Max Gordon combined for more brilliance in doubles play, defeating Raimundo Bascunan and Sam Middleton by a final score of 8-5. Michael Robichaud and Sebastian Smreczak defeated Samuel Johnson and Riley Kehoe also by a final score of 8-5. Rounding out doubles play was Brandon Greger and Paul Riccio, who took down Alexander Azary and John Leonard to send WNE to a quick 3-0 lead in the match. 

Highlighting singles play for WNE was Max Gordon, Sebastian Smreczack, and Michael Robichaud who came away with wins. Gordon took down Raimundo Bascunan 6-3, 6-4 to pick up another singles victory this season. Smreczak went on to take down Salve's Kehoe 6-2, 6-0, while Robichaud needed three sets to take a 6-0, 3-6 7-6 (9-7) win in the set to send WNE to a victory on Saturday. Nick Bayer. Brandon Greger, and Kevin Sharpe also all appeared in singles action for WNE, falling just short, though contributing to the Golden Bears success.
