Bayer Picks Up First Collegiate Win in 7-2 Win for Men’s Tennis over Carroll University

HILTON HEAD, South Carolina (March 14, 2022) – The Western New England University men's tennis team picked up their first win of the 2022 season as Nick Bayer picked up his first singles win of his Golden Bear career on Monday morning. 

How it Happened:
Western New England got a great showing in the singles action over the Pioneers of Carroll University, going 4-2. Nick Bayer won his first collegiate singles tennis match for the Golden Bears, taking down Jack Mccaffery of Carroll by a final score of 6-4, 6-4. Max Gordon took a win over Luke Barter by a final score of 6-1, 6-0. Sebastian Smreczak and Michael Robichaud also picked up wins for the Golden Bears winning 6-4, 6-4, and 6-4, 6-1, respectively. 

The Golden Bears would go undefeated in doubles action, a perfect 3-0 as Bayer and Gordon would move to 2-0 as a duo, winning 8-0 in their doubles match. Smreczak and Robichaud would knock off Ryan Strupp and Jack Mccaffery 8-6 in their doubles match while teammates Brandon Greger and Casey VanDenBossche would pick up a victory 8-7, (7-1) in the doubles round. 

WNE in now 1-1 in Hilton Head with today's victory.
