WNE Softball Announces 2023 Schedule

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 23, 2023) – The Western New England softball team has announced their 2023 schedule on Thursday, featuring 12 games in Florida for their annual Spring Break Trip, eight double header road contests, and six home double header contests. 

The Golden Bears open their 40-game schedule in Florida, playing 12 single games in Clermont. WNE opens the season with SUNY Geneseo (34-6, 16-2 NWGC - 2022) and SUNY Fredonia (14-26, SUNYAC - 2022) on Saturday, March 11. WNE will play eight games in a span of four days, also taking on Carthage University (14-18, 8-8 CCIW - 2022), Belhaven University (41-8, 26-4 ASC – 2022), Carroll University – Wisconsin (20-15, 11-5 CCIW – 2022), SUNY Oswego (9-26, 4-14 SUNYAC – 2022), Bowdoin College (14-18, 3-9 NESCAC – 2022), and Franklin and Marshall University (15-21, 2-14 CC – 2022). Western New England will wrap up their Florida schedule by taking on Mount Saint Mary's University (20-18, 15-3 Skyline – 2022), Edgewood College (20-20, 13-11 NACC – 2022), Plymouth State University (13-23, 6-10 LEC – 2022) and Ohio Wesleyan University (11-21, 7-9 NCAC – 2022). 

WNE softball will return to New England and remain on the road as they take on Fitchburg State University (17-21, 6-8 MASCAC - 2022) for their first doubleheader of the season. WNE will open conference play at Golden Bear Park for their first home games of the season when Gordon College (19-18-1, 6-12 CCC – 2022) visits Springfield. WNE will then take on reigning CCC Champion Endicott College (32-13, 15-3 CCC) on home dirt on Saturday, April 1. The Golden Bears will head across town to Springfield College (26-14, 11-7 NEWMAC) on Tuesday, April 4 for a non-conference tilt. WNE will also play Nichols College (14-23, 7-11 CCC – 2022) to resume CCC play for a double header on the road on Saturday, April 8. 

Western New England will host their final non-conference series of the season on Wednesday April 12 when Westfield State University (18-19, 10-4 MASCAC – 2022) drives the short distance to Golden Bear Park. WNE will then meet Roger Williams University (12-30, 7-11 CCC – 2022) (April 15), Curry College (7-32, 3-15 CCC – 2022) (April 16), Amherst College (26-9, 9-3 NESCAC – 2022) (April 19), Wentworth Institute of Technology (22-17, 9-9 CCC – 2022) (April 22), University of New England (19-23, 10-8 CCC – 2022) (April 23) and Salve Regina University (17-22, 9-9 CCC – 2022)(April 29) to wrap up the month of April. 

WNE plays two series in the month of May before the CCC Tournament begins. WNE will travel to Keene State College (14-24, 2-14 LEC – 2022) (May 3) for their final non-conference series of the regular season before hosting Suffolk University (20-20, 10-8 CCC – 2022) (May 6) on the final day of the regular season. 

The Commonwealth Coast Conference Playoffs will begin on Wednesday, May 10. Eight qualifying teams are split into two double-eliminations brackets. Bracket A will include the #1, #4, #5 and #8 seed while Bracket B will include the #2, #3, #6, and #7 seeds.
