Softball’s Riley Kane Picks Up First Career CCC Rookie of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 1, 2023) – The Western New England softball team saw First Year Pitcher Riley Kane earn her first CCC Rookie of the Week award, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon in the weekly distribution of conference awards. 

In a short week, Western New England played in two games, winning both at University of New England. Kane pitched in both games for the Golden Bears producing four strikeouts through six innings pitched. In game one, the Prospect, Connecticut native earned her fourth save of the season, throwing the final inning for the Golden Bears in a close 9-8 contest, a victory in extra innings. Kane struck out two Nor'easters while allowing just one hit. Kane would get the start in game two, throwing five innings for WNE while giving up seven hits and three runs, two earned while striking out an additional two to lead WNE to a 5-3 victory to sweep the Nor'easters. 

On the season, Kane has made 22 appearances in the circle, making seven starts, accumulating a 5-5 record while producing four saves, throwing 56.2 IP, striking out 28, while collecting a 3.46 ERA. 

The Western New England softball team looks to lock up a top two spot in the CCC Tournament on Tuesday, May 2 when they travel to Salve Regina University for a CCC doubleheader.
