Carrano, Beebe Earn CCC Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 18, 2023) – The Western New England softball team saw both Kailey Carrano (Player of the Week), and Megan Beebe (Pitcher of the Week) earn Commonwealth Coast Conference accolades after their standout performances on the diamond this week.

Kailey Carrano continued to tear the softball this week, hitting .454 at the dish, collecting her first double of the season against Westfield State University (April 12) while smashing three home runs and collecting ten total RBIs in the six-game week. Carrano knocked home run numbers nine, ten, and eleven out of the ballpark this week, totaling 11 on the season, which sits one home run away from tying the Western New England Softball single season record, set by Rachel Wyrwa in 2011. Carrano's 21 career home runs are also one home run shy of tying the all-time Western New England Softball career record, set by Downes Hall of Fame inductee Erin Whitcomb '22 from 2003-2006.

In 28 games this season and 92 at-bats the West Haven, Connecticut native has collected 32 hits, one double, 11 home runs, and 35 RBIs, one RBI short of matching her career high. Carrano is hitting .348 this season.

Senior Megan Beebe picks up her second CCC Pitcher of the Week resignation after 14.1 innings this week, giving up just four hits while striking out 19 batters for the Golden Bears. The Ellington, Connecticut native surrendered just a single earned run on the week, dropping her season ERA to 2.30. Through 70 innings of work on the season, Beebe has won seven games for WNE, making 12 starts and 16 total appearances, collecting 74 strikeouts on the season. Beebe has appeared in 56 total games for the blue and gold, making 40 starts while collecting a 29-13 record overall, throwing 17 complete games. Beebe has 241 total strikeouts over her career, which currently sits eighth in the all-time pitching record books.

The Golden Bears set out for another six-game week, beginning on Wednesday, April 19 at 3:30 PM for a doubleheader at Amherst College before welcoming CCC opponent Wentworth Institute of Technology to Golden Bear Softball Park on Saturday, April 22 for a 12:00 and 2:00 PM doubleheader. The Golden Bears will end the week with two games in Maine, hosted by the University of New England on Sunday, April 23 at 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
