Carrano's Walk-Off Home Run and Nine Total RBIs Helps WNE Sweep Day 3 in Florida

Clermont, Fla. (March 13, 2023) – The Golden Bears went back to work today with another doubleheader. Up first was the Carroll University Pioneers, who WNE was able to take down 5-2 on a walk-off home run. They followed that game up with a matchup against the Lakers of SUNY Oswego. Again, the Golden Bears jumped early with four runs and never looked back as they won 10-2.

Game 1: Western New England 5, Carroll 2

Megan Beebe started the game in the circle for the third day in a row. However, the Pioneers were able to get control of Beebe early. Kiana Johnson reached first base on an error that brought Sydney Raddeman home. That was quickly followed up by Bridget Rath grounding out, but that would bring Lauren Harshbarger home and give the Pioneers an early 2-0 lead. Beebe would pitch three more innings after that and notch three more strikeouts. On the offensive side, the Golden Bears were led by Kailey Carrano, who had a big day. It started in the first inning when Carrano slapped a hit to the infield that was ruled a fielder's choice. That brought Alex Ferriouolo home and cut the lead to 2-1. Carrano would single in the bottom of the third inning, as well. That single brought Dina DiBlasio past home plate. The score was tied up 2-2 after three innings of play.

Riley Kane entered the game as a pitcher in the top of the fifth inning. She faced ten batters and let up no hits. Going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the score was still tied 2-2. With one out, Paige Baca drew a walk. DiBlasio was then intentionally walked after going 3-3 on the day. That brought Kailey Carrano to the plate. Carrano would turn on a pitch and send the ball over the left-field fence for a walk-off home run. The final score read WNE 5, Carroll 2.

The third inning was quiet from both sides; however, the fourth saw more fireworks from WNE. After a double from Brianna Floyd, Alyssa Poisson smacked a single to center field to drive Floyd in. Then, Ines Baez Flores singled and brought home Poisson. Taylor Keegan would help the Golden Bears get the score to 8-0 with a sacrifice fly ball that drove Hemstock in. The bottom of the fourth was when the Lakers started to do some damage. Maria Lutz singled with one out and brought home Samantha Morgan to get the Lakers up on the board. However, that was the only damage done by Oswego in the inning. Oswego would get another run tacked on in the sixth inning on a single to right field from Tai Smith.
