Staten Island Uses Big Third Quarter to Top Golden Bears, 68-49

Junior guard Dorothy O'Neill finishes with ten points, four rebounds

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (November 19, 2016) – The Western New England University women's basketball team was outscored 16-2 over the final four and a half minutes of the third quarter in a 68-49 loss to the College of Staten Island this afternoon in non-conference action at the CSI Sports & Recreation Center.

Top Performers
• Junior guard Dorothy O'Neill (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded ten points on 4-of-9 shooting and four rebounds in her return to Staten Island.
• Senior forward Paige Young (Berlin, Conn.) posted her third straight double figure scoring effort with ten points, six rebounds and two assists.
• Senior forward Emily Anderson (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished one point shy of a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds.

• Junior forward Samantha Flecker (Staten Island, N.Y.) paced the Dolphins with a game-high 20 points on 9-of-23 shooting from the field to go with seven boards, two steals and two blocks.
• Junior guard Christina Pasaturo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) played all 40 minutes and totaled 15 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and two blocks.

Game Review
• Staten Island led 12-9 after a low scoring opening quarter, but the Golden Bears were able to pull even (17-17) on a jumper by O'Neill three minutes into the second period.
• The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half, with junior guard Angelique Price (Staten Island, N.Y.) scoring Staten Island's final three points to tie the score at 25 heading into the break.
• Staten Island connected on its first four shots of the third quarter to open up a 36-30 advantage, but Western New England trailed by just three (38-35) after freshman guard Meghan Orbann (East Hampton, Conn.) knocked down a pair of free throws at the 5:22 mark.
• The Dolphins took control from there, however, scoring nine straight points as part of a 16-2 run to close out the quarter.
• Orbann fueled the Western New England offense with eight fourth quarter points, but the Golden Bears were unable to overcome their deficit.

Notes
• The Golden Bears shot 33.9% from the field (21-of-62), while Staten Island made 27-of-75 field goals (36%).
• Western New England's 23 turnovers resulted in 23 points for the Dolphins.
• Staten Island is coming off a two-point loss to Division I Wagner College in its season opener on Tuesday night.
