Emily Anderson Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 9, 2017) – Western New England University senior forward Emily Anderson (Rocky Hill, Conn.) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team, it was announced today.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District teams, which recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom, are selected by sports information directors in eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
Anderson, a senior criminal justice major with a 3.73 grade point average, currently leads the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) in scoring with 16.9 points per game and ranks third in the CCC in three-point shooting (38.3%). Anderson, who also averages 6.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game, has started all 22 contests this season for Western New England (15-7, 11-4 CCC). She has posted double figure scoring efforts in all but one game, including a career-high 33-point performance on 10-of-15 shooting (7-of-9 3pt fg) in a 97-93 overtime victory at Westfield State on December 8.
The Rocky Hill, Conn. native is just 36 points shy of 1000 for her Western New England career, and needs just eight to reach the 1000-point milestone overall after scoring 28 as a freshman at Suffolk University in 2013-14.
Off the court, Anderson is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta honor societies and is a two-time Dean's List honoree at Western New England. Last summer, she completed an internship with the Hampden County District Attorney's Office in the Domestic Violence Unit.
Anderson is among six student-athletes to earn a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 first team, which includes players from schools located in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. She is the only CCC representative on the team, joining Ama Biney (WPI), Ali Doswell (Amherst), Ogechi Ezemma (Clark), Kara Holinski (MIT) and Michela North (Tufts). All five student-athletes are now eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Anderson is the women's basketball program's first Academic All-District selection since Kailah Al-Darraji, who was named to the ESPN the Magazine All-District 1 College Division Third Team in 2010.
Western New England returns to action on Saturday at Curry, before hosting Roger Williams in its regular season home finale at the Alumni Healthful Living Center next Tuesday night.
