Golden Bears Take Control Early, Extend Winning Streak to Eight with 83-45 Victory at Wentworth

Western New England matches longest winning streak since 2006-07 season

BOSTON, Mass. (January 5, 2017) – The Western New England University women's basketball team established a 20-point first quarter lead and didn't look back on its way to an 83-45 victory at Wentworth Institute of Technology this evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Tansey Gymnasium.

Top Performers
• Senior forward Emily Anderson (Rocky Hill, Conn.) led another balanced Western New England offensive performance with 16 points, five rebounds and two assists.
• Senior guard Sammie Olson (Tolland, Conn.) recorded 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and 3-of-3 from the free throw line to go with three boards and three assists.
• Senior forward Paige Young (Berlin, Conn.) finished with nine points, a team-high seven rebounds and four assists, while junior guard Dorothy O'Neill (Staten Island, N.Y.) and freshman guard Meghan Orbann (East Hampton, Conn.) added nine points each.

• Junior forward Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass.) paced Wentworth with a team-high ten points and two rebounds.

Game Review
• The Golden Bears took control of the contest early, opening up a 12-4 lead midway through the first quarter on their way to a 20-point advantage (24-4) through ten minutes. Western New England limited Wentworth to 2-of-14 shooting (14.3%) in the opening quarter and held the Leopards without a point over the final 6:45 of the period.
• The visitors continued to roll in the second quarter, putting a season-high 33 points on the board and extending their lead to 36 (57-21) at the break. Western New England shot 12-of-14 (85.7%) from the field in the quarter, with Olson's seven points leading the way.
• Western New England held its largest lead of the night (71-25) at the 6:09 mark of the third quarter following a layup by Anderson. The Golden Bears led by 42 after three quarters before going on to win by 38, their largest margin of victory this season. 

Notes
• Western New England shot 50.8% (31-of-61) from the field, its second best shooting performance this season. The Golden Bears limited Wentworth to 33.3% (18-of-54) shooting overall and 14.3% (2-of-14) from beyond the arc.
• Western New England held a commanding 48-23 rebounding advantage and scored 31 points off 22 Wentworth turnovers.
• With the victory, the Golden Bears extended their winning streak to eight games, matching their longest streak since the 2006-07 season.
• Six of Western New England's nine wins this season have been by 20+ points, including three straight and five of the last six.
