Western New England Unable to Overcome Halftime Deficit in 81-62 Loss to UNE

Anderson leads Golden Bears with game-high 27 points

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 28, 2017) – The University of New England women's basketball team opened up a 21-point halftime lead on its way to an 81-62 win over Western New England University this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

Top Performers
• Senior forward Emily Anderson (Rocky Hill, Conn.) led all players with a game-high 27 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field, 4-of-8 from the free throw line, and a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line to go with five rebounds.
• Junior guard Dorothy O'Neill (Staten Island, N.Y.) added 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.

• Senior center Alicia Brown (Greenland, N.H.) paced the Nor'easters with 20 points and six rebounds.
• Junior guard Sam McDonald (Lebanon, N.H.) finished with ten points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Game Review
• The Nor'easters ran their offense through Brown in the first quarter, as the senior made four of her first six field goal attempts and helped UNE open up a 12-6 lead 6:39 into the contest. Anderson finished the quarter with six points, which included a four-point play, as Western New England faced a 16-12 deficit after ten minutes of play.
• UNE opened the second quarter with a 10-0 run, fueled by a pair of three-pointers from freshman guard Jasmine Nyce (Telford, Pa.) to extend its advantage to 14 (26-12) at the 8:05 mark.
• The Nor'easters, who shot 54.5% from the field in the first half and 66.7% in the second quarter, continued to add to their lead the rest of the way, outscoring Western New England 17-10 to take a 43-22 lead into the break.
• UNE held its largest lead of the contest (52-26) after a layup by Brown at the 6:40 mark of the third quarter. The Golden Bears responded with a 9-0 run over the next 3:21, however, to cut their deficit to 17 (52-35) with 3:19 remaining in the frame.
• Western New England, which trailed by 16 (56-40) heading into the fourth quarter, pulled to within 14 (65-51) on a three-pointer by Anderson midway through the period. Another Anderson trey with 2:19 remaining made it a 13-point game (72-59), but the deficit proved to be too much to overcome as UNE held on for the win.

• Western New England shot 34% from the field, 37.5% from three-point range, and 76% from the free throw line.
• The Nor'easters held a 32-31 edge in the rebounding battle.
• Following Anderson's 27-point performance, the senior is just 97 points shy of 1000 for her Western New England career.
