BANGOR, Maine (September 8, 2018) – The Western New England University women's soccer team dropped its opening game at Husson University's Courtyard by Marriott Classic to UMass Boston, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.

Top Performers
Making her first collegiate start in net for the Golden Bears, freshman Shannon Murphy (Halifax, Mass.) recorded six saves.

For UMass Boston, freshman midfielder Jahlyla Ocampo (Braintree, Mass.) put her stamp on the game offensively with a goal and an assist.

Game Review
The contest remained scoreless for the majority of the opening period, but Ocampo got the Beacons on the board less than two minutes before halftime with the help of an assist from freshman Grace Oliver (Rockland, Mass.).

UMass Boston doubled its advantage just over two minutes into the second half, as Ocampo set up sophomore Shannon Rosemond (Weymouth, Mass.) to make it 2-0.

McCulloch was perfect in net, saving all five shots that she faced.
