Mayer and Geist Earn CCC Player of the Week Honors

BIDDEFORD, Maine (September 7, 2021) – After going 3-0 on their opening week, Becca Mayer and Taylor Geist earned Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week awards.

Mayer was named Libero of the Week after a strong showing in Western New England's 2-0 result in a tri-match with Framingham State and UMass Dartmouth over the weekend. She averaged 4.44 digs per set, including a personal-best 28 pickups in a five-set match with the Rams. She once again posted double-digit digs against the Corsairs, collecting 12 in a four-set match. In addition to her defensive numbers, she also had six assists.

Geist was named Rookie of the Week after starting every match this week as a first-year setter in her college debut. She handed out double-digit assists in all three matches, elevating the total and setting new career-bests every contest. She started the week with 15 assists in a 3-0 win against Elms on Wednesday (Sept. 1).  Then in the front-end of a tri-match, she recorded 27 assists as the Golden Bears took down Framingham State in five sets. She topped that mark in the late game against UMass Dartmouth, dishing out 29 assists in a four-set victory. For the week she averaged 7.10 assists per set, while also contributing in other ways. She had 1.30 kills per set and hit at a .370 clip and contributed 1.90 digs per set. She also had six aces across the three competitions.
