Volleyball Sweeps Curry 3-0

MILTON, Mass. (October 19, 2021) – The Golden Bears traveled to Curry College for an intense Commonwealth Coast Conference match where the Golden Bears came out victorious 3-0.

Records:

  • Western New England: 9-10, 2-3 CCC
  • Curry: 10-11, 1-5 CCC

How It Happened:

Set one was all Western New England, as the Golden Bears took the early lead with a convincing 25-8 victory. The Golden Bears hit .333 in the set with 12 kills, paced by junior Sarah Scott with four. Scott also led all players with six digs in the opening set.

In the second set, the Colonels came to life, but were still unable to keep up with the Golden Bears as they won the second set 25-17. Western New England continued to improve their offense hitting .394 in the second set with 17 kills. Olivia Hall led the team with five kills while first year Alissa Hawes tallied four in the set. Scott led once against with digs recording seven.

The third set opened with a 6-1 lead for the Golden Bears followed with a 14-5 lead later in the set. Despite a 7-3 run by the Colonels late in the set, the Golden Bears won the third set 25-19. Scott led once again with four kills while Taylor Geist tallied 11 assists and both Hall and Scott earned four digs apiece.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Both Hawes and Scott earned double-doubles in the match both earning 10 kills while Hawes tallied 10 digs and Scott led the team with 17 digs. This marks Hawes first career double-double.
  • Geist set a career-high 36 assists in the match to lead the Golden Bears.
  • Olivia Hall also earned 10 digs in the match while earning eight kills.
