Golden Bears Race to 25th Place Finish at James Earley Invitational

Dias paces Western New England with 69th place finish in 24:15.55

WESTFIELD, Mass. (October 8, 2016) – The Western New England University women's cross country team raced to a 25th place finish earlier today at the James Earley Invitational, hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park.

The Golden Bears posted a team score of 615 to finish 25th in the 41-team field. The University of New England finished first (65), while Tufts (84) and Keene State (208) rounded out the top-three. Westfield State junior Jess Cardin claimed the individual title, finishing first among 459 competitors with a time of 21:26.81.

Top Performers
• Sophomore Meagan Dias (Ludlow, Mass.) was the first Golden Bear to cross the finish line for the fifth time in five races this season, placing 69th overall after completing the five-kilometer course in 24:15.55.
• Junior Kathleen Silveira (Plainfield, Conn.) followed in 107th place and clocked in at 24:55.51.
• Senior Amy Grindle (Feeding Hills, Mass.) earned a time of 25:08.30, good for 131st overall.

Also Scoring for Western New England
• Freshman Brooke Townsend (Portland, Conn.) – 186th overall in 25:44.52
• Senior Rachel Duda (Clinton, Conn.) – 300th overall in 27:16.76
