Dias Earns All-CCC Honors as Golden Bears Finish Fifth at CCC Championship

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 29, 2016) – Led by sophomore Meagan Dias' (Ludlow, Mass.) eighth-place finish, the Western New England University women's cross country team ran to fifth place at the 2016 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship, held today on the Western New England campus.

The Golden Bears placed fifth in the eight-team field with a team score of 123. The University of New England posted a perfect score of 15 on its way to the CCC title, while Salve Regina (70) and Roger Williams (92) rounded out the top three. UNE's Emma Robidoux was the top individual finisher with a time of 23:16.

Top Performers
• Dias, who has been Western New England's top finisher in every race this fall, earns All-CCC recognition for the first time in her career after completing the six-kilometer course in 24:09, good for eighth place in the 107-runner field.
• Freshman Brooke Townsend (Portland, Conn.) registered a 29th-place finish and clocked in with a time of 25:29.
• Senior Amy Grindle (Feeding Hills, Mass.) followed just two spots after Townsend, placing 31st in 25:37.

Also Scoring for Western New England
• Junior Kathleen Silveira (Plainfield, Conn.) – 35th overall (25:48)
• Senior Rachel Duda (Clinton, Conn.) – 52nd overall (26:43)

Western New England will be off next week before competing at the NCAA Division III New England Championship, hosted by Westfield State University on November 12.
