Golden Bears Place Eighth at Western New England Invitational

Dias leads WNE with 17th place finish

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 15, 2016) – The Western New England University women's cross country team posted an eighth-place finish earlier today at its annual Western New England Invitational.

The Golden Bears finished eighth in the 22-team field with a score of 218. The University of New England (17) saw all five of its scoring runners place within the top-six on its way to claiming the team title, while Roger Williams (126) and Westfield State (150) rounded out the top-three. Tiana Thomas of UNE was the top individual finisher, completing the five-kilometer course in 19:10.  

Top Performers
• Sophomore Meagan Dias (Ludlow, Mass.) continued her strong season with a 17th place finish in 20:29.
• Senior Amy Grindle (Feeding Hills, Mass.) was the second Golden Bear to cross the finish line, doing so in 21:13, good for 39th overall.
• Junior Kathleen Silveira (Plainfield, Conn.) wasn't far behind Grindle, clocking in at 21:22 and placing 42nd overall.

Also Scoring for Western New England
• Freshman Brooke Townsend (Portland, Conn.) – 56th overall (21:39)
• Senior Rachel Duda (Clinton, Conn.) – 104th overall (22:44)

The Golden Bears will be off next weekend, before returning to their home course on Saturday, October 29, when Western New England hosts the 2016 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship.
