Western New England Sweeps CCC Weekly Tennis Awards

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 15, 2019) – Juniors David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) and Hippolyte Bonnet (Lille, France) of the Western New England University men's tennis team have both earned weekly honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), the league office announced on Monday.

Kalmer was named the CCC Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Bonnet collected CCC Rookie of the Week accolades for the first time.

Western New England went 2-0 last week, with a 9-0 victory over Curry College on Wednesday and a 6-3 win over Endicott College on Saturday.

In the triumph over the Colonels, Kalmer teamed up with senior Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) at No. 1 doubles to defeat Curry's top duo of Aidan Roach and Richie Hefler, 8-4.

At No. 2 doubles, Bonnet and Surawski took down Dawson Stento and Lorenzo Russo, 8-0.

Kalmer and Bonnet were also victorious in singles play, as Kalmer earned a 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 result over Roach at No. 1, and Bonnet rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Stento at No. 2.

Kalmer continued his strong play against the Gulls, with an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles over Keaton McCLeary and Daniel Rinkert, before posting a 7-5, 6-1 win over Charles Book at No. 1 singles.

Bonnet and Surawski dropped their No. 2 doubles matchup in the Endicott contest, but Bonnet rebounded with a 6-1, 6-0 result over Cooper Walters at No. 2 singles.

Through 11 matches this season, Kalmer is 9-2 at No. 1 singles and 7-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Bonnet has a 6-4 record at No. 2 singles and a 7-3 mark at No. 2 doubles.

Western New England (8-3, 4-1 CCC) hits the road on Tuesday night to take on Wentworth, before wrapping up its regular season schedule next Wednesday at Salve Regina.
