SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 26, 2019) – Four members of the Western New England University men's tennis team were recognized when the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced its major award winners and All-CCC selections on Friday afternoon.

Senior Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) and junior Hippolyte Bonnet (Lille, France) both took home major awards, as Kohut was named the CCC Scholar-Athlete and Bonnet was selected as the CCC Rookie of the Year.

Junior David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) earned first team accolades in both singles and doubles play, while Bonnet and Kohut collected second team singles honors.

Kohut joined Kalmer with first team doubles recognition, and the duo of Surawski and Bonnet were voted a third team doubles pair.

Kohut earns Scholar-Athlete honors for his performance both on the court and in the classroom. The South Windsor, Conn. native went 11-1 in singles play this season (9-1 at No. 3, 2-0 at No. 4), including 6-1 against CCC competition. In doubles play, Kohut teamed up with Kalmer to post a 9-3 record at the No. 1 position.

Kohut, a Marketing Communication/Advertising major, was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society as a junior in 2018.

Bonnet made significant contributions in his only season with the Western New England tennis program. He went 8-4 at No. 2 singles, including 5-2 in CCC play, to go with a 9-3 record (5-2 CCC) along with Surawski at No. 2 doubles.

Kalmer turned in another strong campaign as the top player for the Golden Bears. He finished the regular season with an 11-2 record at No. 1 singles, including a 6-1 mark in the CCC. Kalmer also went 9-3 (5-2 CCC) with Kohut at No. 1 doubles.

Western New England (10-3, 6-1 CCC), which earned the No. 2 seed and a first round bye in the upcoming CCC Tournament, will host a semifinal match on Wednesday, May 1 at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.
