Seven Golden Bears Score a Pair in 17-4 Win over Husson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 9, 2023) – The Western New England women's lacrosse team hosted the Husson University Eagles who they defeated 17-4 in non-conference action to collect their third straight win of the season.

Records:

  • Western New England: 3-1
  • Husson University: 1-1

How it Happened: In the first two minutes of the game the Golden Bears scored their first goal following a few turnovers. The goal was put in by Kylie Buchanan. Two fouls led to the Husson Eagles getting on the scoreboard at the 10:16 mark. WNE immediately shot one in 36 seconds later and proceeded with six more goals. Ally Ferraro earned her two goals of the game, Buchanan picked up two more, and Hannah Jarvis and Samantha Vitka got their first. The Eagles reached the back of the net again in the last 1:58 of the quarter, and Anabella Arias closed it out with a goal for the Golden Bears for them to lead 9-2.

WNE got the ball in the net four times in the first five minutes of the second, Mia Celentano, Jarvis, Vitka, and Arias all earned their second goal of the game. The Golden Bears were in the lead by double-digits, 13-2. Action became a little scrappy, both teams creating consecutive turnovers before the Golden Bears were handed a yellow card and gave the Eagles a man up opportunity. They capitalized and got the ball in the net before halftime, score 13-3. In the first two quarters of play, the Golden Bears had 26 shots to the Eagles eight. Starting goalie Faith Graveline had a total of three saves while Husson's goalie, Emily Godfrey had six saves.

A free position gave WNE another score out of the break and freshman Sydney Miles got her first goal as a Golden Bear. It took WNE another ten minutes to get on the scoreboard again while they kept the Eagles off it in the third. The Golden Bears reached the back of the net two more times, and Husson had the final game goal. WNE collected their third straight win after their 17-4 defeat over the Eagles on their home field.

  • Kylie Buchanan led the Golden Bears in their win over the Eagles, collecting three goals in four shots on goal and one assist.
  • Freshmen Sydney Miles scored her first two career goals as a Golden Bear
  • Hannah Jarvis, Samantha Vitka, Ally Ferraro, Anabella Arias, and Mia Celentano also all had two goals for WNE.
  • Three of WNE goalies saw action tonight totaling in six saves on 10 shots, Faith Graveline collecting the win to go 3-1 in the season.
  • The Eagles had Maddy Benoit and Laela Martinez both score two goals, and their starting goalkeeper Emily Godfrey recorded nine saves in 25 shots.
