Jarvis Scores 100th Career Goal in 21-5 Win over Curry

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 4, 2023) – The Western New England women's lacrosse team hosted Curry College at Golden Bear Stadium in a conference game where the Golden Bears got the win over Curry 21-5 and gained their second CCC win.

Records:

  • Curry College: 2-8, 0-4 CCC

How it Happened: Out of the draw control there were a few turnovers before Curry College shot in the first goal of the game less than two minutes into action. It took no time for the Golden Bears to answer. They put up an impressive 10 consecutive goals in the first quarter. Hannah Jarvis began the scoring and scored her 100th career goal. Samantha Vitka put in four of the 10, and Madisyn Crotta added two more. After one quarter, WNE took a 10-1 lead, goalie Faith Graveline had one save on two shots, and Curry's goalie Vivi Helquist had three saves on 15 shots.

In the second quarter the Golden Bears held Curry scoreless while getting the ball to go in the back of the net five more times. Anabella Arias shot in a goal, Maggie Holt, Sydney Miles, and freshman Julia Weinert, who earned her first Golden Bear goal, joined her on the scoreboard. Goalie Riley Franzo came in the second to get two more saves for WNE. They outshot Curry 25-5 in the first half, with a score of 15-1.

Arias was given a free position to begin the third period where she got her third goal of the game within a minute and 10 seconds. Curry finally got some additional points on the board with two goals back-to-back, and the quarter ended with the Golden Bears shooting two goals in the final minute. Weinert earned another one along with Miles. The Golden Bears had another goalie change where Emily Lake came in to finish the game with two saves as well. At the end of the third, the Golden Bears had a 18-3 lead.

To finish the game off, in the final period, Curry's Grayson Goolgasian scored one of two of their final goals. Arias put up her fourth and final goal of the game, and to end the day's action, Golden Bears' Mariella Biceglia got her first couple of goals of the season. WNE defeated Curry 21-5 to gain their second CCC win.

  • The Golden Bears outshot Curry College 35-13 with the Golden Bears having 29 shots on goal and CC had 10.
  • Samantha Vitka had four goals and one assists for the Golden Bears on four shots on goal and added nine draw controls.
  • Anabella Arias had three goals and two assists, grabbed four groundballs, and one draw control.
  • Hannah Jarvis collected her 100th career goal with two goals in the game, two assists, a groundball, and two draw controls.
