Women's Lacrosse Falls to Rowan University

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 17, 2023) – The Western New England women's lacrosse team played their last game down in Florida against the Rowan University where the Golden Bears fell to Rowan 19-9.

Records:

  • Western New England: 3-3
  • Rowan University: 4-2

How it Happened: After a few turnovers both ways, Rowan University got a good clear and a chance to put one in the net at the 12:06 mark in the first quarter. With a man down for Western New England, Rowan had a couple more shots on goal that Faith Graveline got the saves on, but another WNE turnover led to Rowan's second goal halfway through the period. Two minutes later, with a little over five minutes to play, Madisyn Crotta put one in for the Golden Bears for them to only trail 2-1. Before the quarter expired, Rowan picked up two more goals taken by Calista Burke within 40 seconds to lead 4-1.

The Golden Bears got a shot off to open the third, that was saved, and Rowan earned two more free position that turned into goals, and a goal following a WNE turnover for a lead of 7-1 4:13 of into the second. Ally Hill reached the back of the net twice for the Golden Bears, but they gave up four Rowan goals, mostly on free position shots. RU had built up an 11-3 lead entering halftime. The shot count for both teams were even at 17, Rowan had six more shots on goal than the Golden Bears. Goalie, Graveline had five saves on 17 shots compared to Rowan's Goalie, Reilly Sharp, who had seven saves in the first half.

A yellow card early for the Golden Bears gave Rowan a man-up free position goal. They added one more before WNE's Kylie Buchanan shot one in, score 13-4. RU scored a goal on the next possession. They picked up their first yellow card that gave WNE's Buchanan another chance to put it in the net. Samantha Vitka followed up with one of her own out of the draw. Rowan forced two more goals before the conclude of the third, having a 10-point lead over the Golden Bears 16-6.

RU went for two goals to start off the final quarter. Ally Ferraro shot one in at the midway point for WNE. After another goal from Rowan, Mia Celentano got a man-up goal for the Golden Bears, ending with the third one of the day from Hill. The final score was 19-9, Rowan.

Inside The Crease:

  • Rowan outshot the Golden Bears 30-28, WNE won the draw control battle 24-7, but had 17 turnovers to RU's seven.
  • Ally Hill led the Golden Bears in goals, ending with three and one assist.
  • Kylie Buchanan contributed two more goals for WNE in three shots.
