Eight Golden Bears Produce Two Goals in 22-7 Win over Eastern Connecticut

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 11, 2023) – Western New England women's lacrosse team hosted the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors at home and came out with a 22-7 win on the day.

Records:

  • Western New England: 9-4
  • Eastern Conn. State: 2-8

How it Happened: The game was quickly in favor of the Golden Bears who picked up a 4-0 lead within the opening five minutes and four different players reaching the back of the net. After the Warriors hit the scoreboard on a free position shot, both Mia Celentano and Hannah Jarvis made their second goal of the quarter plus Kylie Buchanan knocking in a free position for a 7-1 WNE lead. The second free position for Eastern Conn. ended in another goal. They got one more forcing some Golden Bear turnovers, but Ally Ferraro concluded the quarter by putting one in, 8-3 WNE.

The Golden Bears came out the second just as on fire as they did in the first. They took the first goal of the quarter in a minute, two free positions were taken by Jarvis, and back-to-back goals were knocked in by Anabella Arias. Madisyn Crotta made her first one of the game at 5:15, and her second under a minute until half. The Warriors scored one goal in the second for the Golden Bears to lead 15-4 at halftime.

Eastern Conn. St.  scored the first goal of the second half right out the draw within a minute, and following that, it was all Golden Bears who earned five more goals in the third. Buchanan put in a couple more and Maggie Holt took a goal and an assist for a 20-5 lead after three. In the final quarter, the Warriors shot in the first and last goal, while WNE got two more to reach the back of the net as well to give them a 22-7 win against Eastern Conn. St.

Around The Edges:

  • The Golden Bears outshot the Warriors 36-16, they had more draw controls 23-9, and groundballs, 15-14.
  • Hannah Jarvis combined for seven total points with five goals and two assists.
  • Both Samantha Vitka and Maggie Holt added two goals and two assists. Vitka included nine draw controls and caused a turnover.
  • Madisyn Crotta contributed three goals for the Golden Bears.
  • All three of WNE's goalies saw action today, Faith Graveline had three saves on five shots, and Emily Lake had three saves on five shots.
