Buchanan's Five Goals Lead Women's Lacrosse to Win Over Wentworth, 16-2

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 8, 2023) – Western New England women's lacrosse had their third home game in a row against conference opponent Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards who they defeated 17-3 for their third win in a row.

Records:

  • Western New England: 8-4, 3-1
  • Wentworth Institute of Technology: 0-8, 0-4

How it Happened: The Golden Bears had a powerful start to the game, scoring five straight goals before the Leopards got on the scoreboard. Kylie Buchanan put in three of the five. Wentworth got one to go in at 8:52 taken by Shayleah Gunning-Lavoie, and the Golden Bears took three more in the first for an 8-1 lead. Faith Graveline had one save to add to her 200th plus career saves before coming out.

After 2:15 into the second quarter, Buchanan shot in her fifth goal today. The Golden Bears dominated the quarter. They kept Wentworth off the board while putting in five goals. Ally Ferraro scored her second goal of the game, and there was a total of six Golden Bears who put in goals. The score at half was 13-1, Golden Bears, who outshot the Leopards 29-5. Goalie Riley Franzo came away with three more saves.

In the third quarter, the Leopards went scoreless once again. The Golden Bears reached the net twice in this quarter. Megan Spedaliere shot in her first goal of the season, along with another one from Ferraro. Emily Lake went into goal with 3:20 left in the quarter with a 15-1 lead. In the final quarter, there were two goals scored, the Golden Bears first at 9:40, and the Leopards reached the net for the second time today at the end with nine seconds on the clock. The Golden Bears won 16-2 against the Leopards, and earned their third straight win in a row.

Inside The Crease:

  • The Golden Bears outshot the Leopards 42-8 while the Leopards had more saves 13-5.
  • Kylie Buchanan put in five goals on six shots on goal and added an assist.
  • Ally Ferraro contributed three goals and two assists and two groundballs.
  • All three of WNE's goalies saw action today with both Emily Lake and Riley Franzo having two saves on the day.
