Men’s Wrestling Upended by Roger Williams in Dual Action

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 11, 2023) – The Western New England men's wrestling team dropped a dual decision on Wednesday afternoon from the Alumni Healthful Living Center at the hands of the visiting Hawks of Roger Williams University, losing 25-9 in the contest.

How it Happened:
Western New England battled in every match on the afternoon, though found themselves on the short side on seven of the ten matches. In the 197 lb. weight class match, WNE's Darby McLaughlin defeated Spencer Fetrow of Roger Williams on a 9-5 decision to give the Golden Bears their first three points of the afternoon. After dropping the 285 lb. weight class match, the Golden Bears got a victory from Clayton O'Connor in the 125 lb. weight class after O'Connor took down Chris Tringali on a near 3-2 decision.

From there, Roger Williams would rip off the next four matches all via decision victory before the Golden Bears could gain back points in the 165 lb. weight class match. Sean Monteiro would take down Jacob Cardozo in a 7-6 decision victory to get WNE an additional three points on the board though it would not be enough as Roger Williams would take down the Golden Bears by a final score of 25-9.
