McLaughlin Finishes in Fourth at NCAA Northeast Regionals

GORHAM, Maine (February 26, 2023) – Western New England 197 pounder Darby McLaughlin finished the NCAA Northeast Regionals in fourth place for the Golden Bears on Sunday on day two of the tournament from the University of Southern Maine.

How it Happened:
Darby McLaughlin opened the day in the 197 lb. weight class weight class semifinal match, though fell to United States Coast Guard Academy's Coy Spooner, the eventual champion of the weight class via major decision 9-0. McLaughlin would bounce back in the consolation bracket semifinal match on a victory of Roger Williams University's Spencer Fetrow 15-5, a major decision victory. McLaughlin would move into the third-place match of the weight class, needing a win to get into the NCAA Championships in Roanoke, Virginia in two weeks. James Cruz of United States Merchant Marine would defeat McLaughlin in the third-place match via decision, 4-0 to crown the junior with fourth place in the weight class.
