McLaughlin Advances to Day Two of NCAA Northeast Regionals

GORHAM, Maine (February 25, 2023) – The Western New England men's wrestling team saw Darby McLaughlin advance to day two of the NCAA Northeast Regionals on Saturday afternoon, after running through the 197 lb. weight class. 

How it Happened:

Darby McLaughlin started off the day in the opening match of the afternoon with a fall victory in 38 seconds over Shan Daly of Norwich University. McLaughlin continued with a second fall victory over Bridgewater State's Sean McCullough to advance into the events quarterfinal match. McLaughlin would finish up the afternoon with a 7-4 decision victory over Andres Klass of Trinity (Conn.) University to head into Day 2 of the regional tournament on Sunday. McLaughlin will look to run through the 197 lb. weight class, in hopes of collecting a top three placemark to advance to the NCAA National Championships on March 10 and March 11 in Roanoke, Virginia. 

Although not advancing to day two of the event, Griffin Ostrom collected 4.5 points on the day and collected a 2-2 record on the day, picking up wins over Magnus Heisler of University of Southern Maine and Gevorg Aeakelov of Hunter College.
