Women’s Lacrosse’s Vitka, Holt Named CCC Athletes of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 18, 2023) – The Western New England women's lacrosse team earned to Commonwealth Coast Conference Athletes of the Week, as announced by the conference office today, seeing Samantha Vitka earn CCC Offensive Player of the Week while Maggie Holt picked up CCC Rookie of the Week. 

Vitka scored four goals and picked up seven assists in the 2-0 week for the Golden Bears, while winning 16 draw controls. WNE defeated Eastern Connecticut 22-7 as Vitka scored three goals and added two assists, good for five points in the game. The graduate student converted on a free position goal while winning nine draw controls and causing one turnover, taking four shots on goal during the win. WNE would go on to win their sixth straight game over the weekend against Gordon College where Vitka shined again, scoring once while picking up five assists, totaling six points in the win. The Stratford, Connecticut native scooped two ground balls while winning seven draw controls and caused turnovers as WNE defeated Gordon 21-4. 

First Year Maggie Holt helped Western New England in their two wins by scoring three times while picking up three assists, grabbing six points on the week, earning CCC Rookie of the Week honors. Holt scored twice while picking up two assists in the win over Eastern Connecticut while netting a goal and an assist in the conference victory over Gordon College. Holt scooped two ground balls and won six draw controls apiece in the two wins on the week while causing two total turnovers. On the season, Holt has played in all 14 games for the blue and gold, scoring 14 goals while picking up ten assists, putting together 24 points. Holt has scooped 16 ground balls and won 60 draw controls while causing nine turnovers on the year. 

Western New England women's lacrosse hits the road this afternoon, Tuesday, April 18 at 4:30 PM as they visit Salve Regina University.
