Lake Collects Major Award, Six Others from Women’s Lacrosse Named to All-CCC Teams

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 9, 2023) – The Western New England women's lacrosse team tallied six student-athletes on the All-CCC Women's Lacrosse teams while senior Emily Lake was named CCC Scholar Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference office today. The Golden Bears secured four to the All-CCC First Team while two others collected All-CCC Third Team honors.

Lake, the Naples, Maine native majored in Mechanical Engineering and received a 3.89 GPA. A member of numerous groups and associations on campus which include Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma, and a Student Athlete Life Skills Mentor. Lake as also a member of the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll. Over her four-year career with the Golden Bears, Lake has accumulated 22 games played while making 47 saves, playing in over 200 minutes. Lake made her first career start on Senior Day this season in a win over Gordon College where the goalkeeper made two saves in the 21-4 win. Lake is the first student-athlete from WNE Women's Lacrosse to win CCC Scholar-Athlete since 2015 when Emily Castleman won the award. 

Kylie Buchanan picked up All-CCC First Team after putting together a career year for the blue and gold. Buchanan collects her first All-CCC First Team honors after being selected to the Second Team All-CCC a year ago. On the season, the Westfield, Massachusetts native scored a team high 48 goals while dishing eight assists, on her way to scoring 56 points on the season. Buchanan collected four free-position goals on six attempts, while coming away with 15 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers. Buchanan's 115 shots led all Golden Bears and was tied for the most in the CCC this season. The senior tallied at least a point in 17 of 19 games this season while making 18 starts for the Golden Bears. Buchanan registered her 100th career point with Western New England on April 15 in a 21-4 win over Gordon College. 

Graduate Student Hannah Jarvis earns All-CCC First Team for the third time in her career after collecting 42 goals and 20 assists this season, good for 62 points, a career high. Jarvis started and played in all 19 games for the Golden Bears on the year, scoring seven free-position goals on 13 attempts. Jarvis, also the Westfield, Massachusetts native, collected 18 ground balls and 46 draw controls while also causing six turnovers on the season. Jarvis took 103 shots during the year, putting 77 shots on goal.

Midfielder Samantha Vitka, who led Western New England in points on the season, has earned All-CCC First Team. Vitka put up career highs in nearly every statistical category this season, which included goals (42), assists (27), points (69), free position goals (10), ground balls (29), and draw controls won (143). The Stratford, Connecticut native anchored the Golden Bears on offense this season while also totaling 14 caused turnovers, all while taking 80 shots, placing 66 on goal. 

Rounding out the All-CCC First Team for the Golden Bears was Ally Hill, a lockdown midfielder on the season for the blue and gold. Hill played in and made starts in 18 games on the year for Western New England, scoring a career best 11 goals while picking up four assists, good for 15 points on the season. Hill tallied three free position shot goals while scooping 42 ground balls, a team high and collected 27 draw controls. On defense, the Storrs, Connecticut native caused 11 turnovers to help guide Western New England to their second straight 13-win season. 

Sophomore Mia Celentano played in all 19 games on the season for WNE, making eight starts, earning All-CCC Third Team recognition. After totaling 18 points during the 2022 season, Celentano made a big jump, tallying 53 points during her second-year campaign. The sophomore attack put up 34 goals on 57 shots on goal and notched 19 assists for the Golden Bears. Celentano also scooped 18 ground balls, won four draw controls, and caused four turnovers on the season. 

WNE Women's Lacrosse's Maggie Holt collects her first All-CCC award after being named to the All-CCC Third Team. Lake played in all 19 games on the season for Western New England, making 18 starts. The Cumberland Foreside, Maine native registered 23 goals and picked up 13 assists on the season, good for 36 points. Holt scored three free position goals on the season while scooping 25 ground balls and collecting 85 draw controls, which ranks second on WNE. Holt caused 12 turnovers during the season and took 66 shots, 51 on goal.  

Western New England wrapped up their 2023 season with a 13-6 record, which included a 6-2 mark in CCC play and advanced to the CCC Semifinals for the third straight full season.
