Western New England College falls in five sets to Babson at Wesleyan Tournament

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.
- Senior libero Marci Egbert (Wayne, NJ) had a career high 40 digs, but it wasn't enough as the Western New England College women's volleyball team dropped a heart-breaking 3-2 decision to Babson Friday evening (Oct. 22) in an opening round match of the Wesleyan Invitational.

The Golden Bears took the opening two sets by the scores of 25-19 and 25-23 before the Beavers came back to win the next three games 25-22, 25-17, and 15-12.

Freshman middle blocker Maureen Pollet (Dix Hills, NY) and junior right side hitter Inna Sergeychik (West Springfield, MA) led WNEC with 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Senior setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) contributed 46 assists.

Junior outside hitters Meg Flaherty (Hollis, NH) and Nina Milovanovic (Serbia, Belgrade) led Babson with a match-high 22 kills, and 18 kills and 20 digs, respectively. Sophomore setter Kathleen Lynch (Quincy, MA) contributed 48 assists, 14 digs, and three service aces.

Babson also posted a 3-2 win over Western New England College back on September 25 at a tri-match meeting at Babson Park, Massachusetts.

The Beavers improve to 9-14 while the Golden Bears fall to 8-16.

In the other match, Trinity won the final two sets for a 3-2 victory over host Wesleyan.

Western New England College will play Wesleyan at 11:00 a.m. and Trinity at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 23) in the final day of action at the tournament.
