Western New England College volleyball ends regular season with TCCC split

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England College women's volleyball teamed closed out its regular season on Saturday (Oct. 30) by splitting a pair of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) matches, defeating Eastern Nazarene 3-0 and falling to the University of New England in five sets.

The Golden Bears prevailed over Eastern Nazarene by the scores of 25-13, 25-14, and 25-12.

Junior right side hitter Inna Sergeychik (West Springfield, MA) led the way for WNEC with nine kills. Senior libero Marci Egbert (Wayne, NJ) chipped in with 16 digs and senior setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) had 26 assists.

The Lions received 11 digs from senior right side hitter Jennifer Thompson (Salisbury, MD).

The University of New England then defeated Eastern Nazarene in straight sets (25-16, 25-11, and 25-19).

Western New England College dropped a tough five-set match to UNE to close out the day (25-23, 15-25, 26-24, 15-25, and 15-8).

The Nor’easters were led by sophomore middle hitter Paige Curran (Chelmsford, MA) who totaled 12 kills. Freshman libero Kirsta Adie (Tyngsboro, MA) had a match high 25 digs while freshman setter Maria Kuehl (Middleton, NH) dished out 30 assists.

Freshman outside hitter Maureen Pollet (Dix Hills, NY) led the Golden Bears with 11 kills. Boes contributed 35 assists and four service aces while Egbert led the team with 11 digs.

The University of New England improves to 19-10 (6-4 TCCC); Western New England College is now stands at 10-19 (6-4 TCCC), and Eastern Nazarene drops to 3-28 (1-9 TCCC).

Western New England College and the University of New England will meet again on Tuesday (Nov. 2) at 7:00 p.m. in a TCCC Championship quarterfinal match in Biddeford, Maine.
