Western New England drops pair of matches to Williams and host MIT at Quad Tournament

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Western New England women’s volleyball team fell just short in against MIT 3-1 (25-18, 29-27, 26-28, 27-25) and Williams 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-18) at the MIT Quad Tournament Saturday (Oct. 15) at Rockwell Cage.

The Golden Bears, who were 0-3 in the event, are now 10-12 on the season.

Western New England gave the host Engineers a tough battle in the opener dropping the first two sets 25-18 and 29-27 before taking the next set 28-26. The hosts prevailed in the fourth set 27-25.

Sophomore middle hitters Tyler Singh (Dumont, NJ) and Maureen Pollet (Dix Hills, NY) led WNE with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Freshman setter Val Smith (Norristown, PA) contributed 37 assists while freshman libero Grace Kucharski (Avon, CT) added 20 digs.

In the final match, Williams prevailed by the scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 25-18.

Singh again led the way with 10 kills and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team for her efforts.

Sophomore middle hitter Ashley McMullen (South Bethlehem, NY) and freshman outside hitter Kasey Cameron (Reading, MA) each chipped-in with eight kills.

No. 17 UMass Boston won the tournament after defeating Williams 3-0 and MIT 3-2.

The Golden Bears will host Roger Williams at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 18) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match.
