Western New England falls just short in 3-1 loss to host Plymouth State in ECAC's

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The seventh-seeded Western New England women’s volleyball team was narrowly defeated by second-seeded Plymouth State 3-1 in opening round action of the ECAC Division III New England Championship on Wednesday (Nov. 9) at Foley Gymnasium.
 
The Golden Bears gave the Panthers all they could handle in the four set match with game scores of 25-22, 21-25, 25-20, and 25-22.
 
Plymouth State featured a balanced attack with three players contributing double digit kills; sophomore outside hitter Allie Jones (Canton, MA) with 12, and 11 each from junior outside hitter Casey Stoodley (Salem, NH) and sophomore middle hitter Kaitlyn Tedeschi (Pascoag, RI).
 
Western New England was led by sophomore outside hitter Maureen Pollet (Dix Hills, NY) with a game-high 14 kills.
 
Freshman libero Grace Kucharski (Avon, CT) contributed a match-high 23 digs and also added three service aces.
 
Freshman setter Val Smith (Norristown, PA) dished out 33 assists and also had three service aces in the contest.
 
The Golden Bears wrap up their season with a 15-15 overall record under first year coach Bret Stothart, an impressive five game improvement from last season’s 10-20 mark.
