Roger Williams stays perfect in CCC with 3-1 victory over Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams women’s volleyball team ran its winning streak to 15 matches with a 3-1 victory over Western New England Tuesday night (Oct. 18) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

The Hawks dropped the first set 25-23 before winning the next three by the scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-15.

Roger Williams improved its record to 24-3 under first-year coach Rob Mullowney and remained tied for first place in the conference with Salve Regina with a perfect 6-0 mark.

The Golden Bears fall to 10-13 and 3-3 in the CCC under new coach Bret Stothart who coached at Roger Williams the past six seasons.

Senior outside hitter Marybeth Torpey (Quincy, MA) led three Hawks players in double figures with 17 kills and 18 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Danna McDonald (Santa Monica, CA) contributed 11 kills, 20 digs, and two service aces while sophomore middle hitter Krystie Luczynski (Kensington, CT) added 13 kills, 10 digs, and four blocks.

Also for RWU, junior libero Kelsee Loche (Millis, MA) chipped-in with 24 digs. Junior setter Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, MA) dished out 42 assists and had three service aces.

Sophomore outside hitter Maureen Pollet (Dix Hills, NY) led Western New England with nine kills and freshman libero Grace Kucharski (Avon, CT) compiled 18 digs. Freshman setter Val Smith (Norristown, PA) had 21 assists.
