MURRAY, Ky.--Grace Kucharski of Western New England University is the lone Commonwealth Coast Conference representative on the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Division III Women's Volleyball First Team, which was released on Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Kucharski now advances to the national ballot as the Academic All-America team will be announced next month.

A sophomore defensive specialist from Avon (Conn.) High School, Kucharski leads the Golden Bears and ranks third in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with 4.76 digs per set. She repeated as an all-conference pick earlier this month and is a three-time conference libero of the week this season. In September, she was named the Golden Bears Invitational MVP while helping the team win its own tournament.

"Grace has been outstanding on the court and in the classroom, and is well deserving of this award," Western New England coach Bret Stothart said. "Our volleyball program has high expectations when it comes to success in everything we choose to do and we are always supporting each other in those endeavors. Grace’s results have been especially impressive as we are all very proud to have her represent our Golden Bears volleyball program with this honor."

Her overall grade-point average is 3.94 and she is majoring in management and leadership. Her co-curricular activities include Student-Athlete Advisory Committee membership and community service with the United Way, Dig Pink fundraiser, American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Center and Farmington Valley Teen Volunteerism.

The CoSIDA District I team includes Division III student-athletes from Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Kucharski is the second Western New England student-athlete to be named first-team academic all-district, as Kevin Parma is currently on the national ballot for men's soccer.
