Ganley & Salem Earn CCC Football Weekly Defensive Awards

CCC Release

Duo helped lead Golden Bears to 31-28 win at Husson on Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 16, 2018) – Senior cornerback Tommy Ganley (Delmar, N.Y.) and freshman linebacker Joshua Salem (Dracut, Mass.) of the Western New England University football team have both received weekly awards from Commonwealth Coast Football, the league office announced on Sunday.

Ganley was named the CCC Football Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career, while Salem collected his first Defensive Rookie of the Week selection. The duo helped lead the Golden Bears to a back and forth, 31-28 victory at Husson University in Bangor, Maine on Saturday.

Ganley sealed the win with an interception in the end zone in the final minute after the Eagles had driven all the way to the Western New England 22-yard line. He also recorded six tackles and a pass breakup in the contest.

Ganley, who was a wide receiver his first two years at Western New England before making the switch to defensive back for the 2017 season, also had a pair of interceptions in last weekend's win over Westfield State, including a late pick that clinched the triumph.

Salem continued the strong start to his career yesterday, as he was the Golden Bears' second-leading tackler with ten stops, including two for a loss of nine yards and one sack. Salem also broke up a pass in the win.

Western New England (2-1) wraps up its non-conference slate next Saturday at 1 p.m. against Anna Maria College.
