Second Half Rally Lifts Endicott to 41-38 Win over Western New England

Coleman accounts for 321 yards of total offense & four touchdowns

BEVERLY, Mass. (November 3, 2018) – A second half rally by Endicott College that culminated in the go-ahead touchdown with 21 seconds to play lifted the Gulls to a 41-38 victory over Western New England University on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Football action at Hempstead Stadium.

Endicott (7-2, 5-0 CCC Football) now controls its own destiny and can clinch the conference title with a win over Salve Regina next Saturday. With a win over Becker next Saturday and an Endicott loss to Salve, Western New England (7-2, 4-1 CCC Football) could still potentially claim the CCC Football title based on tiebreaking procedures.

Top Performers
Western New England junior quarterback Alec Coleman (Arlington, Mass.) surpassed 300 yards of total offense with four touchdowns, as he completed 22-of-39 passes for 241 yards and one score, to go with 80 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. 

Sophomore wide receiver Adam Razza (Watertown, Conn.) was Coleman's top target through the air as he caught four passes for 93 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, the Golden Bears were led by senior linebacker Kurtis Jolicoeur (Windham, N.H.), who recorded ten tackles (four for loss), a forced fumble and two blocked kicks. Freshman linebacker Joshua Salem (Dracut, Mass.) also totaled ten stops for Western New England.

Endicott junior quarterback Joe Kalosky (Plymouth, Conn.) topped the 400-yard mark as he threw for 321 yards (27-for-52) and five touchdowns, while also rushing eight times for 88 yards.

Gulls senior receiver Christian Cole (Goshen, N.Y.) and freshman tight end Riley Shanley (Simsbury, Conn.) turned in 100+ yard receiving performances with eight catches and two touchdowns apiece, as Cole racked up 147 yards and Shanley finished with 106.

Sophomore defensive back Steven Abbott (Melrose, Mass.) paced Endicott defensively with nine tackles and two pass breakups.

Game Review
Western New England, which led 24-6 at halftime, saw its lead cut to five (24-19) early in the third quarter as the Gulls found the end zone on each of their first two possessions of the second half. Both drives ended with Kalosky touchdown passes, as the junior connected with Shanley for a 20-yard score and junior Ryan Nelson (Mendon, Mass.) for a five-yard touchdown.

Endicott trailed by the same margin (31-26) with 5:30 to play in the third when a Coleman fumble in the Western New England end zone resulted in a Gulls defensive touchdown.

The home team then pulled ahead for the first time (34-31) early in the fourth quarter on a 58-yard touchdown pass from Kalosky to Cole.

Western New England answered on its ensuing possession, as Coleman orchestrated an eight-play, 83-yard drive that culminated in Coleman finding Razza wide open across the middle of the field for a 17-yard touchdown that gave the Golden Bears a 38-34 edge.

Western New England had a chance to add to its lead with 3:17 to play, but a 34-yard field goal missed wide left, setting up Endicott's game-winning drive.

The Gulls got the ball back following the missed field goal and drove 80 yards over 14 plays for the go-ahead score. On fourth and 14 from the WNE 47-yard line, Kalosky completed a 33-yard pass to Shanley to advance Endicott to the WNE 14-yard line. Western New England came up with big defensive stops on the next three plays, but a pass interference call in the end zone on fourth and seven gave the Gulls a fresh set of downs at the WNE one-yard line. Following an Endicott false start that pushed the ball back five yards, Kalosky found Shanley for the seven-yard go-ahead touchdown that would prove to be the difference in the contest.
