CCC Football Release

Coleman, Salem & Hall recognized by conference office

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 21, 2018) – Three members of the Western New England University football team have received weekly accolades from Commonwealth Coast Football (CCC Football), the league office announced on Sunday.

Junior quarterback Alec Coleman (Arlington, Mass.) was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week and third time this season, while freshman linebacker Joshua Salem (Dracut, Mass.) received his second consecutive and third overall Defensive Rookie of the Week award. Freshman wide receiver AJ Hall (Norwalk, Conn.) was also recognized as both the Offensive Rookie and Special Teams Player of the Week.

Coleman, Salem and Hall helped lead Western New England to a 70-13 victory over the University of New England on Saturday, as the Golden Bears extended their winning streak to six games.

Coleman spearheaded Western New England's big offensive day with 285 yards of total offense and six touchdowns in just one half of work. He did the majority of his damage on the ground, rushing for 114 yards on nine carries (12.7 avg.) with four scores, while also completing 9-of-18 pass attempts for 171 yards and two touchdowns.

Salem contributed four tackles and a pass breakup to a Western New England defense that limited UNE to 15 first downs and 13 points.

Hall was responsible for a pair of big plays as he scored two 50+ yard touchdowns in Western New England's offensive outburst. After returning a UNE punt 80 yards for a touchdown late in the first quarter, he hauled in a 52-yard touchdown pass from Coleman to cap the scoring in the second quarter.

Western New England (6-1) will be on the road next Saturday (Oct. 27) at Nichols College with opening kickoff set for 12 p.m. at Vendetti Field.
