Alec Coleman Named to NEFW DII/DIII All-New England Team

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 21, 2018) – Junior quarterback Alec Coleman (Arlington, Mass.) of the Western New England University football team earned a spot on the New England Football Writers (NEFW) Division II/Division III All-New England Team, the organization announced on Monday.

Coleman enjoyed a breakout season in his first year as a starter this fall. He completed 167-of-286 pass attempts (58.4%) for 1,964 yards and 21 touchdowns, while also rushing 113 times for 867 yards (7.7 avg.) and 19 touchdowns. Overall, Coleman accounted for 2,831 yards of total offense and 40 touchdowns.

Coleman received numerous accolades throughout the season, earning four Commonwealth Coast Football Offensive Player of the Week awards and the NEFW DII/DIII weekly gold helmet award on October 31. He went on to earn CCC Football Offensive Player of the Year honors.

2018 marks the fourth consecutive season that Western New England has had a player selected to the NEFW All-New England Team. Coleman is the eighth Golden Bear overall to be recognized, joining Marvin Langley, Kevin Miculcy, Phil Tsopanides, Connor DeVarney, Anthony Service, Obi Etuka and Sam Olsson.

Coleman is among 31 student-athletes representing 22 different DII/DIII institutions to be named to the NEFW All-New England Team. The team will be honored at the NEFW Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 6 at Rosaria Restaurant and Function Facility in Saugus, Mass.

Western New England went 8-3 (5-1 CCC Football) this season and captured its fourth consecutive CCC Football title. The Golden Bears fell to No. 6 Frostburg State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
