David Benoit Joins Western New England Football Staff as Offensive Coordinator

Benoit returns to WNE after being named ECFC Assistant Coach of the Year at SUNY Maritime last season

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 17, 2019) – David Benoit has been named the Offensive Coordinator of the Western New England University football team, Head Coach Jason Lebeau announced this week.

Benoit returns to Western New England after serving as an assistant coach with the Golden Bears from 2012-2015. During his three-year stint, Benoit had additional responsibilities as the team's Equipment Manager and Director of Football Operations.

Most recently, Benoit spent the 2018 campaign as the Offensive Coordinator at SUNY Maritime, where he also served as Quarterbacks Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Last season, the Privateers went 7-4, including 5-1 in conference play, and senior quarterback Thomas Wright was named the ECFC Offensive Player of the Year. Benoit was selected as the ECFC Assistant Coach of the Year after his unit averaged 34.5 points and 416.6 yards per game.

Before SUNY Maritime, Benoit spent two seasons at the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, where he served as the Fighting Scots Passing Game Coordinator for both years. In 2017, Benoit's passing offense compiled 3,232 yards with 224 completions on 345 attempts while scoring 35 touchdowns through the air.

Benoit's coaching career also included a stop at Rockford University (Ill.) from 2015-16. In his one season as Offensive Coordinator, Benoit's unit compiled 2,905 yards of total offense as the Regents recorded their highest win total since 2007.

Benoit played football collegiately as a wide receiver at Westfield State University. In 33 career games, Benoit accumulated 159 receptions for 2,514 yards and 28 receiving touchdowns. He was a two-time All-MASCAC first-team selection, garnering D3football.com All-East Region second team honors as a junior. During his junior campaign, Benoit set a program record with 16 touchdown catches, while compiling 65 catches for 1,046 yards. Benoit also holds the school record for single-game touchdown receptions, having caught three TD passes in a game twice in his career.

Benoit, who earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Westfield State in 2010, went on to receive his Master's Degree in Sport Administration from the University of Louisville in 2012.
