Duo recognized following Golden Bears' 56-21 triumph over Curry on Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 14, 2018) – Junior quarterback Alec Coleman (Arlington, Mass.) and freshman linebacker Joshua Salem (Dracut, Mass.) of the Western New England University football team have both received weekly awards from Commonwealth Coast Football following their performances in Saturday's 56-21 victory over Curry College at Golden Bear Stadium.

Coleman was named the CCC Football Offensive Player of the Week, while Salem collected CCC Football Defensive Rookie of the Week honors. Both student-athletes are being recognized for the second time this season.

Coleman produced 314 yards of total offense and five touchdowns on Saturday as the Golden Bears improved to 2-0 in conference play and 5-1 overall with their fourth straight victory over the Colonels.

The junior signal caller completed 19-of-29 pass attempts for 273 yards and four scores, while also picking up 41 yards and one touchdown on the ground. After the Colonels pulled to within seven points (28-21) late in the third quarter, Coleman engineered four straight touchdown drives to put the contest out of reach.

Through six games this season, Coleman has gone 96-for-160 (60%) through the air for 1,103 yards (4th in CCC) with 12 touchdowns (2nd) and just two interceptions. He has also gained 254 yards (6.3 avg.) on the ground with five rushing scores (T-3).

Salem has made significant contributions during his first collegiate season. He was the Golden Bears second-leading tackler against the Colonels with eight stops, and his 29 total tackles this season rank third on the team. Salem has also contributed one sack, a pass breakup and a blocked kick.

Western New England (5-1, 2-0 CCC Football) remains at home next Saturday to host the University of New England at 1 p.m. in the first ever meeting between the two programs.
