Anastasi & Schenck Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

CoSIDA Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 21, 2018) – Senior defensive back Matt Anastasi (Stoughton, Mass.) and senior running back Ryan Schenck (Farmingdale, N.Y.) of the Western New England University football team were both selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, the organization announced last week.

Anastasi and Schenck are among 24 Division III student-athletes to be recognized from District I, which includes schools in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District Team honors student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Student-athletes must have a grade point average of 3.30 or higher to be eligible.

Anastasi, an accounting and finance double major with a 3.97 cumulative grade point average, earned first team All-Commonwealth Coast Football first team accolades this fall. He appeared in all ten games for the Golden Bears, totaling 59 tackles (37 solo), one interception and a pass breakup.

Off the field, Anastasi is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National Student-Athlete Honor Society and he serves as a First Year Seminar Assistant at Western New England. Anastasi volunteers for the Accounting Mentoring Program and he completed an internship at Aaron Smith, P.C. in East Longmeadow.

Schenck, a finance major with a 4.00 GPA, posted career-highs in all statistical categories this season as he ran the ball 43 times for 271 yards (6.3 avg.) and three touchdowns. Against UNE on homecoming, Schenck turned in his first career 100-yard performance with 106 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries.

Schenck is also a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society and he serves as President of Western New England's student-athlete advisory committee. Schenck, who completed an internship at Protegrity Advisors last summer, is set to graduate a semester early in December.

Anastasi & Schenck are the first two Golden Bears to receive CoSIDA  Academic All-District honors since 2015, when seniors E.J. Franskevicz and Steve Melino were recognized.
