Western New England Unable to Capitalize in 2-0 Loss to Mount Holyoke

Golden Bears outshoot Lyons 22-7

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (September 13, 2016) – The Western New England University women's soccer team put 15 shots on goal, but was unable to capitalize on its chances in a 2-0 loss to Mount Holyoke College this evening in non-conference action.

Top Performers
• Junior forward Iman Shehemi (Feeding Hills, Mass.) was among four Golden Bears with multiple shots on goal, putting a team-high three attempts on target.

• Sophomore Sara Sanau Ruiz (Zaragoza, Spain) scored the opener Mount Holyoke early in the second half and set up the Lyons' second goal just under seven minutes later.
• Mount Holyoke senior goalkeeper Zoe Marshall (Mississauga, Ont.) was impressive in net, stopping all 15 shots that came her way.

Match Review
• After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Ruiz staked Mount Holyoke to a 1-0 advantage 11:03 into the second half on a feed from junior Jentrie Grissom (North Ogden, Utah).
• Western New England had opportunities to draw even on shots by Shehemi and senior forward Samantha Emmert (Hyde Park, N.Y.), but it was the Lyons that would score next in the 63rd minute when Ruiz found junior Jamie Collings (Gainesville, Fla.) for her second goal of the season.
• The Golden Bears continued to test Marshall, putting five shots on goal the rest of the way, but they were unable to break through as Mount Holyoke held on for the 2-0 win.

Notes
• Western New England's total of 15 shots on goal was its second highest this season, after firing 22 shots on target against Maine-Presque Isle on September 3.  
• The Golden Bears outshot the Lyons 22-7 overall and also held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
