Labrie’s Late Goal Secures Western New England’s 2-1 Win Over Eastern Nazarene

Junior Christina Delude provides assists on both Golden Bear goals  

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 17, 2016) – Senior forward Brooke Labrie (Granby, Mass.) scored the go-ahead goal with 3:26 remaining in regulation, lifting the Western New England University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Eastern Nazarene College this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Suprenant Field.

Top Performers
• Labrie, who finished with a team-high three shots, had several scoring opportunities before netting the game-winner.
• Junior midfielder Christina Delude (Belchertown, Mass.) set up both Western New England goals, sending crosses into the 18-yard box on both occasions.

• Eastern Nazarene junior midfielder Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.) played all 90 minutes and scored the Lions' lone goal late in the first half. Couite put both of her team-high two shots on target.  

Game Review
• Western New England was unable to capitalize on a solid scoring opportunity in the 25th minute, when Labrie got behind the Eastern Nazarene defense on a breakaway but sent her shot wide of the net.
• The Golden Bears would pull ahead just over five minutes later, however, as junior defender Maddie Morgan (Upton, Mass.) was on the receiving end of a cross from Delude. Morgan beat Eastern Nazarene junior goalkeeper Anastasia Swift (Morrisville, Vt.) with a shot that found the lower right corner of the net.
• Western New England sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Veilleux (Newington, Conn.) came up with a big save in the 41st minute, but the Lions equalized on the ensuing corner kick as Couite's attempt deflected off a Golden Bear defender and into the net.
• Labrie notched the game-winner at the 86:34 mark, finishing a cross from Delude at the far post.

Notes
• Western New England outshot Eastern Nazarene by a 12-5 margin and also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
• Two of Labrie's three goals this season have been game-winners.

Western New England (3-4-1, 1-1 CCC) will host Elms College on Wednesday afternoon in the second of three consecutive games at Suprenant Field, while Eastern Nazarene (1-5, 0-2 CCC) returns home to face Wheelock on Monday.
