Brittany DeLima Lifts Field Hockey to 2-0 Victory at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. (October 14, 2015) - Sophomore forward Brittany DeLima (Branchville, N.J.) scored a goal in each half, leading the Western New England University field hockey team to a 2-0 victory at Gordon College this evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

With the win, Western New England (6-6, 3-4 CCC) evens its overall record at .500, while Gordon drops to 5-10 and 3-5 in conference play.

DeLima's two-goal performance was her second of the season, after scoring twice in the Golden Bears' 7-1, season-opening win over Wheelock College on September 1st.

Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Trupe (Cardiff, Calif.) also played a key role this evening, turning aside seven shots en route to her third shutout of the season. Trupe has made at least seven saves in six of Western New England's 12 contests this fall, with her season-high of 14 coming against Springfield College on September 17th.

Gordon was on the attack from the outset tonight, putting five shots on goal through the first 21:34 of play, but Trupe stopped each attempt to keep the game scoreless.

DeLima then struck for the Golden Bears at the 24:12 mark, scoring the goal that would stand as the game-winner. Western New England controlled play for the remainder of the half, recording four penalty corners and a trio of shots.

DeLima provided the visitors with some insurance midway through the second half, potting her fifth of the season on a feed from freshman midfielder Emily Antinozzi (Rye, N.Y.) with just under 15 minutes remaining in the game.

Western New England held a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners tonight, while the Fighting Scots outshot the Golden Bears, 10-9. Junior midfielder Karli-An Gilbert (Scarborough, Maine) led the way for Gordon, tallying a team-high five shots, three of which were on target.

Following this evening's contest, Western New England returns home to Golden Bear Stadium on Saturday afternoon to host the University of New England. Gordon will also be back in action on Saturday, playing host to Salve Regina University.
