SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 28, 2015) - Freshman forward Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) scored a pair of second half goals, lifting visiting Endicott College to a 2-1 victory over Western New England University this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey action at Golden Bear Stadium.
Â
Western New England (7-10, 4-7 CCC) led at the half on sophomore Michelle Carlson's (Hackettstown, N.J.) fifth goal of the season, but Endicott (9-9, 7-4 CCC) rallied for the win as senior forward Morgan Bresnahan (South Burlington, Vt.) set up Cogliano for the equalizer in the 40th minute and the eventual game-winner in the 52nd.
Â
Western New England sophomore goalkeeper Grace Trupe (Cardiff, Calif.) turned aside 12 of the 15 shots that she faced, her third straight game with 10+ saves and fifth overall this season. Senior Kaitlyn Labbe (Augusta, Maine) recorded a defensive save for the third consecutive contest, upping hear team-leading total to seven.
Â
The Golden Bears opened the scoring 9:22 into the contest, when sophomore Brittany DeLima (Branchville, N.J.) sent a pass from the right side to Carlson, who was positioned near the left side of the cage. Carlson stuffed a shot past Endicott senior goalkeeper Rose Bradley (Pottstown, Pa.), giving Western New England a 1-0 lead.
Â
The Gulls would equalize four and a half minutes into the second half, however, on Cogliano's first of the night, before taking the lead in the 52nd minute when Cogliano redirected a shot by Bresnahan past Trupe.
