CCC Athletes of the Week Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 2, 2015) -
Western New England University sophomore goalkeeper Grace Trupe (Cardiff, Calif.) has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Week for field hockey, the league office announced yesterday.

Trupe led Western New England to a 1-1 record in its last two games of the season last week, compiling 15 saves and a 1.00 goals against average. She turned back 12 of the 15 shots that came her way in a 2-1 setback to Endicott College on Wednesday, marking her third straight 10+ save effort and fifth overall this season. Trupe followed that up by posting a three-save shutout on Saturday, as the Golden Bears defeated Roger Williams University 3-0 in their 2015 finale.

The Cardiff, Calif. native ranks third in the CCC with 120 total saves this season, while her 2.72 goals against average is good for sixth. Trupe made a career-high 14 saves in a 3-0 loss to Springfield College on September 17th, and also posted an 11-save performance at Mount Holyoke College on October 22nd.

Western New England finished its 2015 campaign with an overall record of 8-10, including 5-7 in CCC play. The Golden Bears finished in a tie for fourth place in the league standings with Roger Williams, but the Hawks held the tiebreaker and advanced to the CCC Championship. Western New England's total of eight wins this season is the most for the field hockey program since 2010, when the Golden Bears won ten games.
