Western New England Earns NFHCA Team Academic Award

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 29, 2016) -
The Western New England University field hockey team has been honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) with a 2015 ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award, it was announced last week.
 
The National Team Academic Awards recognize field hockey programs that achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the 2015-16 academic year.
 
In addition to the team award, nine Golden Bears earned a spot on the NFHCA National Academic Squad for posting a GPA of 3.30 or higher. Seniors Katherine Ferrari (Westport Point, Mass.) and Sabrina Lyesiuk (Orange, Mass.), sophomores Allison Jackson (Mahopac, N.Y.), Jenna Katsock (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Brianna Novaris (Plaistow, N.H.), and freshmen Lana Felice (Pawling, N.Y.), Paige Hebert (Enfield, Conn.), Leah Kelemen (Bartlett, N.H.) and Kayley Surrette (Rutland, Mass.) were all lauded for their efforts in the classroom.
 
Kelemen, Novaris and Surrette were also named NFHCA Collegiate Scholars of Distinction for earning a GPA of 3.90 or higher.
 
Western New England finished the 2015 season with an overall record of 8-10 (5-7 CCC), the highest win total for the program since 2010. Jackson and classmate Brittany DeLima (Branchville, N.J.) were named to the All-CCC second team, while Novaris, Jackson, Katsock, Lyesiuk and Ferrari landed on the CCC All-Academic Team.
