Western New England Splits with Saint Joseph’s and Simmons

Snider leads Golden Bears with two second place finishes

STANDISH, Maine (January 20, 2018) –
The Western New England University women's swimming team split a double-dual meet with Saint Joseph's College and Simmons College on Saturday afternoon at the Harold Alfond Center Pool. The Golden Bears defeated host Saint Joseph's, 169-75, but fell to Simmons, 199-62. 

Sophomore Kayla Snider (Leesburg, Va.), the reigning NEISDA Division III Swimmer of the Week, led the way for Western New England with a pair of runner-up efforts. Snider placed second in both the 50-yard backstroke (32.81 seconds) and 100-individual medley (1:07.88) to go with a fourth-place finish in the 200-backstroke (2:29.74).

Senior Erika Sheinhait (Framingham, Mass.) was the top Golden Bear performer in the 500-freestyle, as she swam to third place with a time of 5:58.04 (NEISDA B Cut). Sheinhait also turned in a fourth-place finish in the 200-freestyle (2:14.02).

Senior Janelle Lief (San Jose, Calif.) placed second in the 50-butterfly (30.65 seconds) and swam her fastest time of the season (2:41.67) in the 200-butterfly, finishing fourth. 

Senior Jacquelyn Peterson (Beverly, Mass.) registered a NESIDA A Cut time in the 1650-freestyle (20:47.02) and improved upon her season-best performance in the 500-freestyle (6:02.30).

Freshman Lauren Mangiaratti (Ashland, Mass.) turned in a runner-up performance in the 50-breaststroke (35.62 seconds).

Sophomore Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.) posted a time of 2:53.33 in the 200-breaststroke, good for third overall. Elliott also registered a NEISDA B Cut time in the 100-IM, finishing fifth in 1:12.25. 

Freshman Julianna Foley (Wilbraham, Mass.) turned in season-best times in the 50-backstroke (34.55 seconds) and 200-backstroke (2:41.64). 

Junior Anna Boucher (Merrimack, N.H.) swam her fastest time of the season in the 50-breaststroke (40.27 seconds).
