Golden Bears Defeat Rhode Island College on Senior Day, 133-79

Elliott & Snider post three even wins each

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 27, 2018) – The Western New England University women's swimming team celebrated senior day with a 133-79 victory over Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Healthful Living Center Pool.

Western New England recognized its five seniors, Erika Sheinhait (Framingham, Mass.), Janelle Lief (San Jose, Calif.), Ali Johnstone (Southwick, Mass.), Jacquelyn Peterson (Beverly, Mass.) and Julia Winer (Longmeadow, Mass.) before the meet.

Top Performers
• Sophomores Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.) and Kayla Snider (Leesburg, Va.) led the way for the Golden Bears with a trio of event wins each. Elliott finished first in the 50-yard breaststroke (36.22 seconds), 100-freestyle (1:03.25) and 200-individual medley (2:33.59), while Snider was victorious in the 50-freestyle (28.56 seconds), 200-freestyle (2:12.09, NEISDA A Cut) and 500-freestyle (5:53.50, NEISDA A Cut). Elliott's times in the 50-breaststroke and 200-IM were her fastest of the season.
• Freshman Julianna Foley (Wilbraham, Mass.) registered first-place finishes in the 50-backstroke (34.00 seconds) and the 100-backstroke (1:12.55).
• Lief also posted a pair of event wins in the 50-butterfly (30.95 seconds) and the 100-butterfly (1:11.35) while finishing second in the 100-backstroke (1:20.05).
• Peterson and freshman Lauren Mangiaratti (Ashland, Mass.) rounded out Western New England's individual event winners in the 1650-freestyle (21:11.66) and the 100-breaststroke (1:15.66), respectively. Mangiaratti, who posted her fastest time of the season in the 100-breaststroke, also placed second in the 200-freestyle (2:21.29).
• Sheinhait swam to second place in the 50-breaststroke (36.34 seconds, NEISDA A Cut) and third in the 100-breaststroke (1:18.50, NEISDA A Cut), while freshman Sarah Bartlett (Branford, Conn.) turned in a runner-up effort in the 1650-freestyle (21:54.34).
• Junior Anna Boucher (Merrimack, N.H.) turned in her top time of the season in the 100-butterfly (1:26.62), while classmate Sharon Lui (Milton, Mass.) earned a time of 2:37.70 in the 200-freestyle, five seconds faster than her previous best this season.
• Western New England's 200-medley relay team of Snider, Mangiaratti, Lief and Sheinhait opened the meet with a first place finish in 2:04.31.

With its dual meet schedule complete, Western New England will be off until Friday, February 16^th, when the Golden Bears wrap up their 2017-18 season at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships, hosted by the University of Rhode Island.
