Golden Bears Defeat Curry, 9-0, in 2016 Opener

Freshmen Morgan Schrader, Rachel Bauer enjoy successful Western New England debuts  

MILTON, Mass. (September 3, 2016) – The Western New England University women's tennis team opened its 2016 campaign with a 9-0 victory over Curry College this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

Top Performers
• Making her collegiate debut, freshman Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) was victorious in both singles and doubles play, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Alexandra Moschetto at No. 5 singles after teaming up with junior Lauren Sell (Milford, Conn.) for an 8-1 triumph over Laura Ferris/Katelyn Harrington at No. 2 doubles.
• Freshman Rachel Bauer (Palmer, Mass.) also enjoyed success in her Western New England debut, earning an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles along with junior Kim Phu (Wolfeboro, N.H.) as the duo dispatched Jennifer Dube/Stephanie LeBlanc.
• Senior captain Joeanna Glantz (Agawam, Mass.) earned two points for the Golden Bears with her wins at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles.

Match Review
• Western New England got off to a strong start with a sweep of doubles play, and didn't slow down from there. Sell set the tone at the top of the Golden Bears' singles lineup, posting a 6-1, 6-3 win over Keeley Hardy.
• Glantz, juniors Christina D'Agostino (Bohemia, N.Y.) and Jessica Breitweg, (Bohemia, N.Y.) Schrader and senior captain Corey St. Louis (Groton, Conn.) all came out on top in the Golden Bears' season opening victory.

Western New England (1-0) returns home to host Wentworth on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in its 2016 home opener. Curry (0-2) will look to bounce back on Tuesday at Eastern Nazarene.
